Getting ready for a beach getaway the lazy way : Day 6 Blog

Gooooood evening! I was so busy today and I didn’t see the time fly by.

I started the day by downing a big glass of water. I read somewhere that it was a good habit to have and for the past few years I have been drinking a glass of water as soon as I wake up and before I have anything else. Coffee is the second priority!

Breakfast was a fried egg (I would have had two but there was only one left in the carton) with two pieces of multigrain toast. I fried the egg in a small amount of butter and also put a bit of butter and organic strawberry spread (Crofters brand) on my toast.

For some reason I wasn’t hungry for snacks today and ended up eating three square meals. I strongly recommend that you read the book Intuitive Eating. I read it after struggling with disordered eating habits, ironically while I was supposed to be at my healthiest and in the best shape of my life–training six days a week and being super concerned about what I was putting into my body.

Intuitive eating is how I choose to eat. I follow my body’s hunger cues and eat accordingly. My food choices are guided by health but also by the pleasure of eating.

Since I was stuck working at my desk I ordered a bison burger on a whole wheat bun from Le Gourmet Burger. Did you know that bison is leaner than beef? I also ordered sweet potato fries but they messed up my order and I got regular fries instead. I had a few fries and dipped them in wasabi mayo and the restaurant’s secret sauce. I kept my burger simple with lettuce, tomato and caramelized onions inside.

This kept me full until dinner. I met my good friend and Sweets & Squats contributor MJ for dinner. We went to one of my favourite French bistros: Le Square. The restaurant is a BYOB so I totally failed on my goal not to drink wine today.

Because I didn’t have the time to workout and spent the whole day sitting I felt really antsy so I walked to the restaurant and back, which took me about an hour total. Good thing I walked.

Bacon makes a salad way sexier. It’s all about balance my friends. And for the record, I left about half of the bacon because I knew what was coming next.

I polished this bowl of pasta, which was so yummy and worth it: Tagliatelle with foie gras and cured ham. You mix the whole thing until the foie gras melts and hugs every noodle with creamy deliciousness.

We split a small piece of apple pie for dessert.

I also had a small piece of baguette and almost half of the bottle of wine. So yeah, good thing I walked for an hour! Always try and squeeze physical activity into your day. Think beyond the gym. Park the car further, take the stairs or ride your bike. Making small efforts consistently might not get you quick and dramatic results but it will give you good habits for life.
